all us misfits.

all us misfits. is a short script for video I wrote while coming to terms with having type II diabetes. And while it's an over-reaction - in this day and age, diabetics live complete and full lives - to think that this disease is going to kill me off any time soon, everything that I read seems to point to the idea that, while the diabetes doesn't kill people, the things it does to their systems sure doesn't help much: kidney failure, pancreatic failure, etc. You know something isn't good when sentences used to describe it repeatedly use the phrase, "In the developed world, diabetes is the most significant cause of [insert nasty condition here]..."

Oh well. As Mary says in the script, "life is a terminal condition."

BUT... since I'm still here and kicking, I might as well get busy being a filmmaker. The idea of living with a disease - whether diabetes or HIV - that is most likely (barring accidents of any kind) going to be responsible for what kills a person, well... that made for an interesting script idea. Thus, I got to writing on March 12th and finished things up on March 17th - St. Patrick's Day. On March 22nd I transcribed and edited the script, then started this blog for anyone who wants to read it and for everyone involved in the production of the short film. My thanks to Lana Roberts, Carly Latimore, Tate McCullough, and Andrew Ellis for already committing to the production; more thanks will come out later.
